College football recruiting: Top players Derrick Green, LaQuon Treadwell set announcement dates

The top available running back in the nation is ready to wrap up things, he announced on his Facebook page over the weekend.

?I have decided to make my college announcement on January 26, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. Truly Blessed!,? Derrick Green, Sporting News? No. 13 overall prospect, posted on his Facebook page this weekend.

Michigan, Auburn and Tennessee are his finalists and he took official visits to all three campuses with Auburn being the last one in early November. The 6-foot, 220-pound Richmond, Va., back reported more than 30 scholarship offers. Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss and USC were among the most recent schools to be trimmed from his short list. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and in-state schools Virginia and Virginia Tech were among his other offers.

He recently described his abilities to Sporting News.

?The college coaches like my speed at 4.31 seconds in the 40,? Green said. ?They like my size at 220 (pounds), my vision, hands, power and the yards after contact?usually between four and seven yards. That?s what makes me a BCS level recruit.?

As a senior, Green finished with 1,285 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns, while also catching seven passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. According to Scout.com, he sat out 17 entire quarters during his senior season because of large leads by his Hermitage High School team.

Green isn?t the only big-name player in the past few days to set an announcement date.

Wide receiver LaQuon Treadwell, whose stock has been rising in recent weeks, will make his announcement Thursday. Treadwell had a monster senior season catching the ball, with 81 receptions for 1,424 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also excelled on defense, with 43 tackles and five interceptions playing in the secondary. He turned heads during the week of practice for and during the Under Armour All American game.

Treadwell, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds out of Crete (Ill.), just returned from an official visit to Oklahoma State this past weekend, and Ole Miss and Oklahoma are two other schools that may land him. Those are the only three schools that he took official visits to, though Florida and Michigan are also after him.

Rashaad Samples, a wide receiver heading to Oklahoma State, said he tried swaying Treadwell at the Under Armour Game.

?I got to know him a little bit, talked to him about Oklahoma State,? Samples told The Oklahoman. ?I tried to recruit him a little, told him it would be a good place to go. He's a good guy and has good speed for a guy with that size.?
